πŸŽ‰ Heiss Update released

My Christmas present, a new Major Update released

Almost a year has passed since the last major update. A lot of things have happened in the meantime but I have decided to dedicate a few hours in the last weekend to complete the last changes necessary for the release of the Heiss version! I can finally announce that the Heiss Update has been released, is up and running. This is a nice Christmas πŸŽ… present, isn't it?

What Heiss Update added to the Figure Skating Stats project?

This is the complete list of what's new and what has been added/edited.

General:

  • Favicon: how such an important thing like that wasn't there since the beginning? Well now is shining right up πŸ”Ό there.
  • New All Championships page where to find all competitions added to the database. The table can be ordered by any column.
  • New Search Athlete page. When you're using the new search athlete feature, if more than one match is found, then you're redirected to a page with the clickable list of all matches.
  • User reserved area has been improved with the addition of the Discord and Telegram links.
  • New Feed RSS page to use and/or share.
  • Since now every new article posted on the website is automatically reposted in the Discord Server from the FSS Bot πŸ€–.
  • New FAQ page where you can find...well everyone knows what FAQs are there for.
  • From the Athlete Profile page it is now possible to download a copy of the graph.
  • Google Analytics has been added to the website to help me tracking some users info like the size of the screen and the device type (smartphone/tablet/desktop) to improve most used features before others.

Home page:

  • Latest articles section has been added.
  • Only the three latest competitions's preview are now displayed.
  • In the right bar there's now the Quick Access section. Here you can find the link to the pages:
  • In the right bar there's now the Search Athlete section. From the input field you can search an athlete by name/surname or part of them.
  • In the right bar there's now the Join the Community section where you can click the invitation button to join the discord server and the telegram channel.
  • In the right bar there are now the Biggest Fanbase and Highest Score leaderboards. The highest score leaderboard is now divided by specialty and there is a link to the dedicated page.

Other:

  • Upgraded database backend admin interface.
  • Some code polishing has been done:
    • renewed imports order.
    • renewed list order (urls, views).
    • renewed function and classes order.
  • Updated scraping import function.
  • Enabled the import of ISUCalc "light" generated pages (this feature has to be tested and refined but works fine with well generated pages).
  • Added athletes merge feature used to merge the same athlete if imported multiple times (for example when the same athlete change surname after the marriage).
  • Added auto image upload function that can be used when writing articles.
  • Added editing and deleting function for articles. Everything of an article can be edited from the editing page.
  • When you share a link an image and some details are added to the preview.
  • Solved Bug #6.
  • Solved Bug #16.
  • Solved Bug #17.
  • Solved Bug #18.

You can find more updates details here and here.

While the home page loading slowness problem due to the pagination system has been solved, all the new added stuff is causing another loading issue. This means that the home page needs a design refactoring soon. My idea is to use the Homepage as a descriptive preview of the features and make more use of the menu to direct the user to the page of the desired feature.

Next Update

The name for the next update chosen in the discord server is...drumroll πŸ₯...Lutz in honor of the Austrian Alois Lutz (1898 – 1918). Alois Lutz executed what would later be referred to as a single Lutz in 1913. The first triple Lutz ever executed in competition is dated 1962 and was executed by the Canadian πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦ World Champion πŸ₯‡ Donald Jackson. The American figure skater Brandon Mroz is the first man to have ever executed a quadruple Lutz jump in a sanctioned competition source. From now on I'm going to open the Lutz branch and start working on the next update. In the meantime, you can vote for the name of the update coming after the Lutz one in the discord server (check out the πŸ“’-announcements section πŸ˜‰).

As always, if you want to help me πŸ€—, the best thing you can do is to share this website with your friends and follow the discord server.

Merry Christmas πŸŽ„πŸŽ and Happy New Year 🍾πŸ₯‚

Cheers πŸ‘‹
